Westcotes Neighbourhood Link – Weekly Update
Dear Resident,
Please find below a detailed update from your Westcotes Neighbourhood Policing Team, outlining the work carried out in your area over the past week.
City Centre & Shopping Patrols PCSOs conducted regular high-visibility patrols across the city centre and key shopping areas. These patrols focused on deterring shop theft, identifying and dealing with anti-social behaviour, and providing reassurance to shoppers, staff, and business owners. Officers worked closely with store security teams, engaged with members of the public, and gathered intelligence to help target repeat offenders and emerging issues.
Warrant on the Beat – Drugs Disruption Officers executed a warrant at a local address. This resulted in the discovery of equipment associated with cannabis cultivation. Although no full grow was in place at the time, the seizure of equipment has disrupted potential drug production and removed the means for further criminal activity. Investigations remain ongoing.
Underage Vape Sales Enforcement As part of continued safeguarding work, officers carried out proactive checks at 16 retail premises across the ward. Sadly, five shops were found to have sold vapes to individuals under the age of 16. Enforcement action was taken where appropriate, and clear guidance was given to business owners regarding their legal responsibilities. Repeat visits and partnership work with trading standards will continue to protect young people from harm.
Prolific Offender Arrested & Charged Officers arrested and charged a prolific offender linked to a number of offences causing concern to residents and businesses in the area. This individual has been responsible for repeat incidents, and their arrest represents a significant step in reducing crime and preventing further offending in Westcotes.
Drugs Dog Deployment – Student Accommodation A targeted operation was carried out at local student accommodation, supported by specialist officers and a trained drugs detection dog. The aim of this operation was prevention, deterrence, and education. The presence of the drugs dog provided reassurance to residents and reinforced the message that drug-related activity will be robustly challenged. Officers also took the opportunity to speak with students about staying safe and reporting concerns.
We would like to thank residents and businesses for their continued support and engagement. Your information and feedback play a vital role in helping us target our patrols and address issues that matter most to the community. If you have concerns, intelligence, or would like to speak to your local officers, please report this via the usual channels.
Kind regards,
Westcotes Neighbourhood Policing Team
